Intrinsic to the programme is the involvement of the family. When the family visits the centre, the family begins to realize that they are the secret sufferers of this mysterious disease, and it is during these sessions that the denial of the family and the patient is broken. Once this is done, the family can start building a healthy relationship (no more enabling or co-dependency).
In the meantime, the office staff keeps in contact with the families in order to prepare them for the family session and the eventual return of the patient to the family.
It is our belief and our experience that the client has a better chance of remaining sober, if the family issues are identified and a start made to reconcile the client with his family while he is recovering at the centre.
In this context, the family is educated on the dynamics of the disease of alcoholism/drug addiction. The more the family understands the disease, the better they are able to deal with the issues that arise during post-treatment.
